Practice Information March 2021
COVID-19 Vaccination Update
This has already begun but is being rolled out in 3 stages.
➢ Stage 1: - the immunisation of all border workers and their contacts. This is being done by a dedicated unit who have the facilities to administer the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine which requires to be stored at low temperatures.
➢ Stage 2: - the immunisation of all frontline health workers. This has not started but preparations are underway.
➢ Stage 3: - the final stage is immunisation of the general population by general practice staff, starting with anyone at higher risk. This will not start here any earlier than July. Priority was given to countries with high rates of transmission.
Fortunately, we live in NZ and we benefit from having data on the safety and efficacy of the millions of doses given so far. Vaccination is free for all New Zealanders and we strongly recommend it. If you have doubts or questions talk to our doctors and nurses.
We have current information from the Ministry of Health that you may wish to take from our reception area, or you can visit the Ministry of Health web site for further updates.
- Dr Sarah Wong will start practising at Harley Street from early May. Sarah will be here on a Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.00am – 1.30pm. Sarah has a strong interest in child health and spent 18 months working as a registrar in Nelson and Christchurch Hospitals in paediatric medicine. She also enjoys women’s health and family medicine.
- Joanne Gilson is our new Health Care Assistant so many of you will see Joanne when you come in, she may talk with you and take your observations before you see your doctor. Jo has an enrolled nursing background and is excited about joining the HSM team and meeting our patients.
- Sadly, Dr Jan Arnold has left us to move to Christchurch. We farewelled Jan with a lovely lunch and night of Archery which was great fun!

Flu Vaccinations 2021:
Flu Vaccinations for people over the age of 65 will be available from 14 April and for all others by the end of April. We will be running designated flu vaccination clinics throughout the week and possibly some Saturdays. Vaccination is free to all those over the age of 65 and anyone with health conditions that meet Ministry of Health funding criteria. The cost of the vaccine for unfunded adult patients is $32.00.
This year we will again run our Flu clinics from the carpark to make it as simple and efficient for you as possible. Car parking will be more limited this year due to the fact we will also have regular patients attending in the clinic. If you are able, we suggest you park away from Harley Street and walk to us. We will also be operating from a porta cabin to provide a bit more comfort for you and our team.
For those patients signed up to our Manage My Health Patient Portal (MMH) please watch out for important messaging around Flu Clinics as we get closer to the 14th of April.
Patient Appointments and Waiting Times
Appointment times are for 15 minutes. If you have several problems to discuss we may not be able to do you justice in one 15-minute appointment. You may wish to book a double appointment?
Our clinical team try hard to run to time however sometimes there could be an emergency situation or something out of their control which will put them behind time. If you have been waiting for more than 30 minutes, please let the receptionist know!
Late Night Thursday and Extended Lunch Time Clinics
We are now offering a late-night clinic on Thursday. Patients are able to book up until 6pm. This might be ideal for you if you work till 5.00pm or have difficulty booking during the day. We have 2 doctors and a nurse in attendance. Lunch time appointments are now also more accessible between 12 and 2pm.
