Spring Newsletter 2025

Health Improvement Practitioner

Harley Street Medical welcomes Clare, our new Health Improvement Practitioner
(HIP). Clare is a Registered Psychologist (General Scope) and is in the practice on
Wednesdays and Fridays.

Her role is to help GP’s by supporting people with a range of psychosocial issues
and physical health challenges (e.g. stress management, sleep, managing worry,
lifestyle etc.). Clare’s goal is to help patients become unstuck and find ways to
move forward. Clare’s wealth of experience and lovely nature mean patients feel
comfortable and equipped with the right tools for change.

Visits with Clare are 30 minutes in length and free of charge. Please book through
your GP during a consultation or ask the reception team to book an appointment
for you.

Clare can also do tele-health consults by request.

Winter Illnesses in Spring

There is a prevalence of what are perceived as ‘winter illnesses’ presently in the
community (Influenza, RSV and viral bugs). We ask that you take extra precautions
to keep yourself and other patients in the practice safe.

Please let the team know when booking an appointment if you are experiencing
cough/ cold symptoms. Patients with these symptoms are asked to wait in the
carpark and will either be seen by a GP downstairs OR will be phoned and brought
straight up into a consult room (to avoid sitting in the waiting room).

Please do not be offended if you are reminded of these policies; we are doing our
best to keep everyone as well as possible.

Manage My Health Cancellations

Please note, if you are trying to cancel an appointment on Manage My Health, you
can only do this 24 hours in advance. Please phone in to the practice if you need to
cancel an appointment that is less than 24 hours away.

Contacting the practice

A friendly reminder that if you wish to chat to a nurse or doctor about anything
medical, please phone the practice to book a consult. Emails about your personal
health requests are not appropriate; these are checked by our admin team who are
not clinically trained and are unable to discuss any test results or give medical
advice.

Additionally, we are unable to book appointments or order repeat prescriptions
through email, so please phone the practice or use Manage My Health to do this.

Interpreter services

We can help you find an interpreter. Interpreters are important as they understand
everything that is being said from both patient and GP perspective, ensuring no
miscommunication or confusion. Interpreters maintain strict confidentiality and
can help you access the care you need. Family members aren’t usually
recommended to interpret.

Please let reception know if you need help booking an interpreter.

Staffing Updates

We welcome Rosie and Nevina to our administration team. They have both settled
in really well and enjoying helping our patients and team. We sadly had to say
goodbye to the wonderful Rochelle, who has embarked on new adventures. We
wish her all the best and she will be greatly missed here!

Measles Outbreak

Health New Zealand is encouraging people to monitor for measles symptoms,
such as a fever, cough, runny nose, sore eyes and a rash, after measles cases have
been confirmed in New Zealand.

Now is a great time to check if you and your family are protected against measles
and to get immunised if you need it.

Getting immunised with two doses of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
vaccine (after the age of 12 months) is the best form of protection against measles.
The MMR vaccine is free in New Zealand for anyone who is eligible for free
healthcare. Please contact the practice nurses if you are unsure if you are fully
vaccinated, have questions or wish to book a vaccine.
